How do you install the Dymo label printer?

Here is a step-by-step guide to correctly installing and using the DYMO LabelWriter to print BarTrack stock stickers.


Preparation

  1. Check the contents of the box
    Make sure you have the following items:

    • DYMO LabelWriter printer (e.g. 450, 550 of 5XL)

    • USB cable

    • Power adapter + power cable

    • A roll of labels (test labels often included)

  2. Place the printer on a flat surface
    Place the printer close to your computer and a power source.


Installation

1. Do NOT connect the printer to your computer yet

2. Download the correct software (DYMO Connect or DYMO Label Software)

  • Go to the official website: https://www.dymo.com

  • Click on Support > Software & Drivers

  • Choose your model (e.g. DYMO LabelWriter 550) and your operating system (Windows or macOS)

  • Download the latest version of DYMO Connect (for modern models like 550) or DYMO Label Software (for older models like 450)

3. Install the software

  • Follow the installation instructions

  • Restart your computer if asked for

4. Connect the printer

  • First connect the power adapter to the wall outlet and the printer

  • Then connect the USB cable to your computer

  • The computer will automatically recognise the printer


Printing of stock labels

1. Open DYMO Connect or DYMO Label Software

  • Select the correct label type and size (e.g. 32x57 mm)

  • Choose or create a design including:

    • Article name

    • BarTrack article code

    • Quantity / price

    • Bar or QR code

2. Fill in dynamic data (if applicable)

Some systems (such as BarTrack inventory management) can generate automatic label data. Make sure you set up the integration correctly if you use software that supports DYMO.

3. Print test label

  • Make sure the label is properly aligned

  • Check that the print is clear and complete


Maintenance & Problem-solving

  • Replace label roll regularly

  • Avoid stickers with dust or creases

  • Clean the print head with a cleaning card (once a month recommended)

If the printer is unresponsive:

  • Check cables and power

  • Restart the software

  • Uninstall and reinstall the driver
